a perhaps slightly ill-advised late-night walkabout.
. . .
It started here, at the Bell House in Brooklyn, this past Friday, on the second night of the Chickfactor 22 mini-festival. I was having a blast. The Clientele, one of my favorite bands, had reunited for just this one show. The room was packed. The set was amazing. I was a little delirious from joy.
Which is how I ended up, after the set ended around 1 in the morning, deciding that instead of taking the subway home, or finding a cab, I would walk home, alone. It’s not a particularly long walk — just a mile and a half, according to Google Maps — but it was after 1 in the morning. I did it anyway. The walk along 4th Avenue isn’t necessarily dangerous or anything — there’s decent light, and two-way traffic — but it was deserted, foot traffic-wise. Just a lot of mechanics’ garages (mostly closed) and gas stations. Which prompted the ill-advised part: taking out the Leica and shooting everything on the walk home. It reminded me of the time I was at Stockholm’s Arlanda airport at night (only that time with the Leica M6 and 3200 speed film and far better architecture).
Anyhow, here’s what I saw that night — lots of lights, lots of cars, next to zero people. Sort of awesome. Though next time I’ll probably try to flag down a cab.

I would’ve ended up imagining I was in some sort of horror movie and creep myself out lol. Interesting photos though! 🙂
Your very own film noir set, all such beautiful shots!
