One of my favorite vantage points in all of New York City is this spot on the southern side of the Manhattan Bridge — the pedestrian side, for all you cyclists who don’t know that the northern side is yours — right where it crosses over East Broadway. Every time I walk across the bridge I try to snap a photograph. The shot above was taken in the early afternoon this past Sunday, on a long walk from the Brooklyn Promenade, over the bridge, and into the Lower East Side.
It’s such a vibrant street, and I love the way the colors and the mood of the street changes in different light conditions. To wit:

And even a badly-processed roll from CVS (thanks a lot, guys) can’t take away from the electricity of the place:

Beautiful photos, I love how different each one looks. Great work and congrats!
These are stunning pix — what a vibrant, cool place!
I’m absolutely stunned at the lack of cars, though…of course, I’m a West Coaster, so it may be a naive assumption that ALL of New York is bustling with bumper-to-bumper cars…
😉
awesome picture . . . 🙂
Lovely photos! I’d love to go there someday
A side of new york that wanna visit now
Brilliant pics 😀
Beautiful!
Great shots. Thanks for sharing. Connie

This beautiful series of photographs was taken from the Manhattan Bridge as it crosses over East Broadway in New York’s Chinatown. This is one of my favorite streets in the entire city.
Very nice! The building on the left side of the photo changes color dramatically. Even the fire escape changes color during the day.
Really beautiful shots.
Rare that I see a picture of New York that looks so new, and yet so… New Yorkish. Thank you!
WOW…memories of the Big Apple…..amazing!
Great… 😉
I absolutely love creative artists =) Thank you for showing us 4 different conditions of this point of view. STUNNING!
Fantastic! You’ve captured the vibrancy and spirit of aliveness that is the heart of New York. I’m obsessed with the city and I’m so jealous you get to live there!
That’s a great view, one beautifully evoked in your images. I always look for it when on the train coming over the Manhattan Bridge. I’ve yet to walk across but I will do someday soon!
Your pictures are great for my eyes…

Great photos. Except for a couple of the skyscrapers in the back and the models of cars, these photos could have come from the 1940’s/50’s. They have that poignant, almost elusive nostalgia that brings to memory photos of this great city in another generation. Quite an accomplishment in a “modern” photo, and an excellent collection. Thank you for sharing them.
Very nice pics—both simple and beautiful.
they’re quite some pictures. Really captures something there . . .
Whenever I use to walk on them streets, I felt as if I was in a movie.
Love these images, thanks for sharing. 🙂
You must be an artist if even that badly-developed CVS picture becomes magical in your hands!
Fantastic shots of the city. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful pic. I love my city.
For a moment there I thought I was back in Taiwan because of the Chinese commercial signs LOL
Great Pics – thanks for sharing! Congrats on being FP!
I am gonna visit NYC if it’s the last friggin’ thing I do!
I live not far from where these shots were taken. They’re great images that really depict the area.
These are great! I love the first one!!
I love the repetition of the subject in different lighting. And that all of them turned our gorgeous.
Mad props.
Very cool pics.
Absolutely beautiful shots! Fantastic work!
Actually, I like that “badly processed” night shot! And is it strange that I live here and still haven’t walked across the Brooklyn bridge? This is a great vantage spot though!
Great photos. New York is some town.
Lovely!

New York City photos – i always love! I see this same view at times when i take the Manhattan bridge, but it looks ten times better with your photo!
One of my favorite NYC memories was working as a PA driver and cruising down east broadway working. It always gave me a sense of calm.
Wow this brings back memories of our trips there! Thank you!

What A Live Street View. The office situated at Best location.I would like to visit the place some day.
I grew up in Brooklyn and loved visiting the city. I moved to Florida 20 years ago and always went back to visit 2 or three times a year. But the last two years I haven’t been able to go and your pictures have made me so home sick….
Interesting see the same shot in different light and times. Congrats on your selection in freshly pressed.
If I could visit any city in the U.S. it would definitely be New York–I’ve always wanted to go there! These views are spectacular–when I think of Broadway I think of the stage plays–I didn’t know there was more to Broadway, and there obviously is–much more. It’s looks like a Chinese section–cool! It’s just so magnificent, the height of the buildings, the energy of the living streets, and of course the colors!
nice post…love the echo of your street captures.
What can i say fantastic
broadway is an amzing place, which is full of many people’s dreams!
Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed!

I really loved this post. I started keeping my camera in the car (the old-fashioned digital kind) because I never know when I’m going to see something that that strikes my fancy!
I really love the first shot, there’s so much colour!
Great pictures. It depicts on how time quickly passes by as I perceive it. 🙂

these are amazing!
I love your photos! where are they taken from ?
Great pictures !!!
Excellent photography! I love the fact you shoot with film 99% of the time. It makes for the traditional feel which I love in design. Also, the use of the photos themselves and the different lighting scenes makes a real picture! I am now following your blog and cannot wait to see more your talents in photography!
this part of town was something that had to grow on me…but now that it has, i have an insatiable desire to visit at least once a week. it’s the noise, the peeling paint of vibrant colors, the smells both good and bad, the majestic view of the [albeit less interesting] financial district far ahead, the secrets behind each door on the street…
great post, and what beautiful images of east broadway!!!
♥ this. Great photos.
Simply Beautiful, wish I was there.
Excellent light and shadow photos. I enjoyed this very much.
I’m a native New Yorker living elsewhere. So nice to see great pictures of home. I can almost hear the traffic and smell the multitudes of diverse cooking odors, a plane passing by overhead. Love the transition from morning to night!
great photos !! Nice..
I used to live in Brooklyn and work in the East Village/Lower East Side, so I know that spot! I love the way you captured it in the various light conditions. Really exquisite post!
Great shots… Ironically, my favourite picture is the one from the badly processed film.
My goodness! Awesome pictures! And they are retro, as well.
Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed!
Awesome post!
Photography anywhere is great but this is amazing it reminds me of an old film shot I saw dealing with symphony music and city life. It is a certain film genre and the first of its kind but the name just isnt clicking in my mind. If I find it ill send you a link 😀
